We are delighted to announce that The Gambia has officially joined WPC Energy, becoming a member of the organisation's global network of National Committees and energy leaders from around the world.
The Gambia's membership marks an important milestone for both the country and WPC Energy, strengthening the organisation's representation across Africa and reinforcing its commitment to fostering international cooperation throughout the evolving energy landscape.
Located within the highly prospective MSGBC Basin of West Africa, The Gambia is developing an emerging oil and gas sector with significant offshore potential. The country's energy industry has attracted growing international interest in recent years, supported by ongoing exploration activity, a modern regulatory framework and increasing engagement with global energy partners. The Gambia's Petroleum Commission, established in 2021, oversees the regulation and management of the country's upstream and midstream petroleum activities as part of its broader ambition to leverage energy resources for sustainable national development.
The country's offshore portfolio is strategically located alongside some of West Africa's most significant recent hydrocarbon discoveries. Industry studies and exploration programmes continue to highlight the strong potential of The Gambia's offshore basin, with several international companies actively evaluating and exploring opportunities in the region.
The Honourable Mr. Nani Juwara, Minister of Petroleum and Energy and Chair of The Gambia National Committee observed:
