WPC Energy (WPC) regularly checks in with students and young professionals from within the energy industry to see what they think about the industry. This report breaks down its recent discoveries, giving us a real look at how students and young professionals aligned to the energy industry perceive the energy transition.

This report was delivered with the support of Accenture and the dedication of the WPC Young Professionals Survey team. The combined team represents five different countries and six different energy companies.

Global results were provided from 1800+ responses 58% Men 41% Women 1% Other provided by 27 Countries across 6 continents.

These were further discussed during an expert panel at our 24th Congress in Calgary considering the Next Generations Perspective on the Energy Transition

In an era of energy landscape transformations, identifying, attracting and retaining talents with the skills to unlock opportunities will be a critical factor in the industry's success. On a regular basis, the WPC surveys the perception of students and young professionals (up to the age of 35) on the global Oil & Gas Industry - their drivers and motivators to work in the sector (career development, compensation and rewards, job security, workplace environment, industry reputation). The results of the survey were shared in December 2021 at the 23rd World Petroleum Congress in Houston, and provide holistic and fact-based perspectives on talent attraction and retention.

The results of the Survey were also presented in Houston at the 23rd World Petroleum Congress and further discussed by an expert panel

In February 2021 the WPC Youth Survey reached another important milestone to become a recognised reference for the oil & gas industry through the set up of the WPC Youth Survey Experts Committee. A group of HR Experts from different companies, backgrounds and a variety of geographical origins, who provide their guidance and knowledge to the WPC Youth Survey Team.

The Expert Committee's role covers:

  • Reviewing the content development
  • Being ambassadors of this initiative within their company and HR community
  • Contributing to the definition of actionable initiatives for the survey outcome

Led by Tamara Seres (Serbia) and Zaid Al Khateeb (Kuwait), the WPC Youth Survey team, was reinforced with the incorporation of Alaa Al Zarafi (Oman), Olga Fedorova (Spain), Ivan Kurchatov (Russia) and Adi Akheramka (USA) in order to support the new challenges ahead in the year of the official launch and presentation of the Youth Survey at the Houston Congress in December 2021
